Chlöe: 'Trouble in Paradise'

Updated: Aug 15

What's Good Ya'll!!! Wow it's August already, and this month so far is providing us with nothing but great content and vibes! I want to be honest friends, I am just getting into new music again with R&B. I took a little break to listen to French and Haitian music ( Languages I am currently learning, also a vibe). Anyway, I...like many of us, have been following Chlöe's journey since her youtube days. Chlöe x Halle released their first album, 'The Two of Us' in 2017. but it wasn't until their 2018 'The Kids Are Alright' album that garnered more mainstream attention. With two studio albums now under their belt along with guest starring on a popular hit series for teens/young-adults,'Grown-ish', you knew it was only a matter of time before the two sisters would go their separate ways to explore creative outlets outside of one another.

As Halle's focus seemed to be geared more towards film, Chlöe's direction seemed to be more so in music. Chlöe's first solo project, released in 2023, 'In Pieces'; was not In rotation for me, and it was solely due to the singles that were released surrounding that album. I only enjoyed one song ( 'Pray It Away') so I was a little nervous and hesitant to listen to the new album.

'Trouble In Paradise' should have been the debut album, and if I ever meet our good sis I want to be the first to tell her. This album had me like 'hold the hell up!' Did I misjudged the first album just off a few singles? So I ran back to the first album and wow. A solid piece of work but it should've been second and now it makes me think, was this her plan? Is this a series of work telling a story?

'Trouble In Paradise' gives early Destiny's Child. Every song is a bop and while there are no intros, outros or skits, the flow of the album, each songs transition from one to the next is telling you a story or making you want to dance and have a good time.

In my heart of hearts this is a debut album lol because sis did everything she needed to do to introduce ya'll to CHLÖE THE ARTIST!!!) from the writing, production, vocal range like come on! Now I truly believe every debut album needs Ty Dolla $ign lol I don't particularly care for his music but every song he's added to like parsley, it's the garnishment you were missing! With that being said haha, Ty Dolla $ign lends his vocals to the second song on the album 'Might As Well.'

I love a lot of songs on this album if I'm being honest , 'Boy Bye' is a cute little bop, I envision myself driving on the west coast with the water to my right as I say goodbye to my past and look forward to my future. 'Temporarily Single' is so beautiful as it samples Tyrese's classic song 'Lately.' Now, if you gonna sample you need to either do it right or make it your own and Chlöe did EXACTLY that with this song, giving it a little bit of a Latin flavor too with the sound. Number 7 on the album is 'Favorite' and I can't decide if it's one of my favorites because of Anderson .Paak, the instruments used within the track or the way it makes me want to get up and dance lol. 'Same Lingerie' while NSFW, it truly is a beautiful song that gets you in your feels. 'Want Me' featuring Halle makes you reminiscent of Chlöe x Halle. The way their voices intertwine so beautifully on every record is euphoric sometimes and this is one of those songs.

As Chlöe's persona as an artist still tends to throw off the masses I want us to really focus on the music. She is young and still discovering who she is especially within this beast of an industry and I think that deserves more patience and grace than she has been given since her solo debut. I also would like us to keep in mind that the little girl we were introduced to all those years ago, no longer exists, she is a grown woman, with grown thoughts, experiences and peers so I implore you when it comes to the music, take some time and check out her discography.
