What's Good Ya'll! New music is heavily upon us! On March 22, 2024, Loony, a Toronto-based singer, has finally released her first studio album and I'm so proud of her! I've been listening to Loony since 2020, it was her EP 'soft thing' that captured my attention. Loony intertwines blues and neo-soul effortlessly, her voice just flows so beautifully with each melody. When I looked up Loony online there wasn't too much covering her new album which was so disappointing because it is an amazing first release!
Giving sad prom queen on the album cover, Loony bares her soul through funky instrumentals on songs like Mama Don't Be Sad. Loony has made me reminiscent of an artist named Colbie Caillait. Colbie Caillait is an American pop singer who I was insanely obsessed with in 2007. Her songs were giving more Folksy/Pop to me but what do I know lol. Loony's first album was giving me Colbie vibes with more R&B/Blues influence for sure. But I think it's the way their voices beautifully flow melodically with each song on their album. Maybe its the production that makes me so happy about this project, every artists deserves great production especially for their first self titled album.
Some of my favorite songs on the album are People Die Everyday, Counting Thunder and Nothing Else Feels The Same. People Die Everyday really should be a single, it's an upbeat tune about taking people for granted ultimately coming to terms that we shouldn't take our loved ones for granted people die everyday. Counting Thunder is a whole different flow, every her voice is portrayed differently on this track. It's a jazzy love track and you'll want to run it back again and again! Nothing Else Feels The Same is my absolute favorite track on the album. Loony comes into the track at a low tone and it soon gets higher as the song progresses. Instrumentally the song is beautiful with a jazz/blues influences and then the background vocals... omg and was this a live band used for this song because seriously its a vibe.Honorable mention lol, First Thing Smokin' is such beautiful jazz/influence ballad as well and once again those damn back ground vocal man!! They blended so beautiful and well with Loony.
