What's Good Y'all! Now if you have yet to tap into this next artist, you are in for a TREAT! Allen Stone has been on my radar for some years now. It was around the time I discovered Nao and The Internet (about 2016 or 2017). Live from his mother’s living room Allen Stone and his band put together a jam session, with songs like ‘Unaware’ and his cover of ‘Is This Love’, posted it to youtube and garnered over 16 million views!
From Chewelah Washington, Allen Stone has been singing since the age of 3 grinning his musical journey within his father’s church. By the age of 14, with his guitar he was leading worship at his church. However it would not be until his teenage years in which he would discover soul music and artists such as Stevie Wonder and his album Innerversions would bring life to the direction of his sound. When you listen to Allen Stone you can absolutely hear the influence of old school soul and blues artists. I get little tingles inside everytime I listen to his music, it genuinely reminds me of those moments my mom would throw on some Stevie Wonder or Earth Wind and Fire. I have listened to every Allen Stone album since 2010 ( his very first album, ‘Last to Speak’ was released in 2009) and I think his latest album release, ‘Mystery’ is definitely my favorite album.
The album begins with ‘Already There’ and it's such a feel good intro to the album from the lyrics to the vocal arrangement and production. ‘Mystery’ Ft. PJ Morton is another favorite of mine on the album. Who would have thought the collaboration of PJ Morton and Allen Stone was what I was missing from my life! Both vocally blessed it sounds like a Stevie Wonder track from beginning to end. I love the entire album, from MEmory of you to Can’t Explain this Love but my third favorite on the album is Sweet Little Rainbows. I love how Allen really showed out vocally on this album especially with this bop that is a little reminiscent of Prince mixed with D’Angelo.
The whole album is a bop and I could go on about it forever but what you should really do is check it out for yourself, links below:
