What’s Good Y’all!! This past Friday, I took my nostalgia to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN, and scored a last-minute ticket to Brandy and Monica’s 'The Boy is Mine Tour.' For some, the tour seems like it's overdue, but I am a firm believer that when the time is right, things will just fall into place the way they should. Now, granted, they definitely could have given us this tour a few years ago when the world didn’t feel like complete despair…before 2020 for sure! But that is neither here nor there, lol, it is what it is, and the show must go on!

I was late to the show due to a prior scheduling conflict, so I did miss Muni Long and another opener that was NOT Kelly Rowland…so that was disappointing. The city of Nashville was blessed with a special guest, Coco Jones, who was a perfect addition to the show.
While I did see Coco a few months ago, it was good to see her again, and this time on tour with legends, two ladies who helped pave the way for her…what an honor! Coco Jones is now on her 3rd studio album release and is already a Grammy Award winner… while it may seem like she is a new artist, Coco has been doing her thing since the mid-2000s, getting her start as a regular on the Disney Channel. Going from child star to an adult sensation is no easy feat, and I love to see how far Coco has come and can’t see what else she has in store for us! With her family and her hometown of Nashville in the building, Coco performed and sang as if rent was due! If you have never seen Coco live, this is your sign to do so before the price goes up! Lol
I was practically brought to tears when Brandy “Moesha” Norwood stepped on that stage, dancing like a Kidz Bop version of Mary J. Blige. I had seen Monica before, around 2008/2009, in DC while she was on tour with Trey Songz. I already knew what I was getting from a Monica performance, so I was ready… especially since this time we weren’t focused on one particular album…these are ALL THE HITS! As both a Brandy and Monica fan, who can sing both of their discographies as if they were Sunday Hymns I needed to remember, I didn’t realize just how much I love Brandy until that album. While both artists raised me and both created masterpieces of work that got me through tough times, it was Brandy that I wanted to mold every fiber of my being after. The way she was exalted as our R&B Princess forever lives as an imprint on my soul. Between the albums, Cinderella, Moesha, and a Brandy Barbie, I was the ultimate fan baby! And it was this past Friday that I finally got to experience my fav in person.
The ladies switched off performing: Brandy would go, then Monica, and throughout the show, they would perform together. I like that they went through the ages of their albums, but I do wish the eras were more in order than just on shuffle. I was only a little disappointed not to hear newer songs from both Monica and Brandy, I mean, I get it, but baby, a REAL fan was in the building, DO IT ALL!! Lol, I absolutely loved the Whitney tribute. Every day, I miss Whitney Houston, so I know her two proteges miss her even more. I didn’t even realize how much I was gonna miss and be hurt by the loss of Whitney Houston, but I find myself listening to Whitney just about every few months since her passing. She was one of our ancestors who was truly the blueprint. A powerhouse talent and a girl's girl, what’s not to miss?!
I do love FINALLY finding out that two of my favorite singers never had a rival or beef; that was just some made-up tabloid bs. And isn’t it wild how we didn’t even have social media during that time, yet the media still managed to spin whatever story they wanted, and the fans ate it up and ran with it. Talk about the power of the media…yikes.
There are a few shows left, so if they are coming to a town near you or you don’t mind a quick trip out of town, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND SUGGEST you see two legends live. Check out the remaining tour dates below:
