What's Good Ya'll! Happy May! As Spring is upon us so is concert season and I kicked off my concert series with Loony. On Sunday, April 28th, I decided to take a road trip to Philly and see Loony live at The Foundry. A concert on a Sunday sucks but its also an undescriable vibe. Now Loony isn't a big, commercial artist, however, she does have a cult following and I wasn't sure how many people were going to be in attendance, especially on a Sunday, but it didn't matter to me as long as I saw Loony. What I love about artists and shows like this is, the venue is always going to be small, personal and quaint. I love these kind of places because you not only get to connect with other fans such as yourself, but after the show you might get the chance to meet the artist. The opener for the headliner could possibly be an upcoming artist you may have heard of. This time I was unaware of the opener and that was exciting!
Artist, Songwriter ad Producer, Sophia Galaté was the opener for the Loony Tour. It takes a lot of guts to get on a stage and open for someone else, knowing the crowd is there to see the headliner and they may not know you or your music, you really have to come out and win the crowd over in a sense. It, didn't take long or too much as Sophia's beautiful voice began to bellow out 'Should I Tell You.'
Now sis made it clear she gone sing her songs but to warm us up to her, she sung a popular Snoh Aalegra song 'I Want You Around.' Even if you weren't familiar of who Sophia Galaté, her lyrics consisted of familiar times in which many of us can relate to, with songs like 'Intimate Feeling', in which she describes being with someone for only no strings attached purposes. It's a beautiful 'elt hi down easy' ballad lol. The crowd wasn't big but Sophia commanded the stage, connected with the audience and definitely gained some fans that night.
The anticipation for Loony, was killing me. I have been waiting for a new Loony album for a few years now ( she even mentioned on stage that it took her a minute to create this album...TUH I know girl, I was waitin'! lol) Donning a lettermansjacket, tutu, tiara, tshirt and pigtails, this petit young woman comes out on stage and I guess my husand wasn't prepared because the first thing he said after the concert was "I can't believe Loony is white" lol. Neither of us had watched Loony perform anywhere prior to that night so we weren't sure what to expect. Can she really sing? Does she dance? Will there be dancers?
Loony can SANG, it felt like I was listening to her new album in my car...just live. It's pretty typical for many neo-soul artists not to have dancers just an amazing band a beautiful voice/personailty to follow. With Loony, that is exactly what you get. She came out on the stage ready for Philly and Philly was definitely ready for her! Loony gave her fans both new and old classics, songs like 'Counting Thunder', 'People Die Everyday' and 'Show You Why' were a few she song from the new album and my favorite oldies but goodies 'Raw' and 'Some Kinda Love' was sung at the top of my lungs!
I want to apologize for my lack of footage ya'll, the reality is when I go to a show now I just want to be there and live in the moment. I try to record and take a lot of pics but I get to dancing and singing and can't control myself lol so do me a favor check out my IG: If you want to see the videos that I was able to catch from The Loony Tour check me out: @missjlh_. I've also attached the other dates for the rest of the tour if you wanna jump on board too! Highly recommend!!!
