Dawn Richard’s creole culture Is More Than an Album. It’s a Love Letter to New Orleans.

One thing about Dawn Richard? She's never been interested in staying inside anybody's musical box.
With creole culture, released October 9 through Merge Records, the singer continues doing what she's always done best: creating music that refuses to be confined to one genre.
The 11-track album blends R&B, soul, Hip Hop, jazz and electronic influences while drawing inspiration from her New Orleans upbringing and cultural heritage.
The project also completes a trilogy that began with New Breed in 2019 and continued with Second Line in 2021.
And the collaborators? Big Freedia, Durand Bernarr, Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Tarriona “Tank” Ball and Dawn's father, Frank Richard, all contribute to the album.
There's something beautiful about an artist revisiting her roots without feeling obligated to recreate the past.
Because preserving culture doesn't always mean keeping everything exactly how it was. Sometimes it means giving the next generation something new to carry forward.
