LYNN on the Rise
What’s Good Y’all! As September slowly comes to an end, I want to end the month off with an artist you DEFINITELY need to look out for! While searching for new music, I came across Lynn The Bad Guy's "On The Radar" freestyle on my feed. Her presence caught my attention. It showed innocence and youthfulness. I wondered, “What do her voice and bars sound like?” but most importantly, who is this new artist and where did she come from?
Lynn the bad guy is now based in Austin, TX, but she hails from Alabama. Since 2020, she’s been rising fast. With singles like "360" and "No Practice Freestyle," Lynn has shown what she's capable of. In 2021, she released her single "Bad Guy," "Slik Sly," and her "Dub Club Freestyle," proving that Lynn was not letting up. In 2022, the independent artist dropped her first album, "Middle of Madness." The opening track introduces her with the bold question, "Who The Hell is Lynn?" In 2023, Lynn released an EP called Release and Retribution. She also dropped a single titled "Relay," featuring Projectbabyjv. However, it wouldn’t be until 2024 that it felt like the motion would not stop. She earned an official SXSW artist spot for three years in a row: 2024, 2025, and 2026. She played at Stubb's for KUTX's Summer Jam. She shared the stage with CupcakKe and DJ Paul from Three 6 Mafia. With these connections and three albums, it’s exciting to see where this 24-year-old rapper will go next!
I clicked on the video and felt surprised. She didn’t brag about how tough she is or how she’s the baddest. Her bars didn't brag about money, clothes, cars, and other expensive, unnecessary things. Instead, she focused on her origins, her family, and her upbringing. To me, that shows a young woman honoring her roots. She pays tribute to those who raised her and understands their struggles. She knows she must work as hard as they did to succeed on her chosen path. But she isn't worried. She has many role models who came before her. They proved she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.
Her new single, "Let Me Know," is from her 2025 album, "Ten Thousand Hours." This year, they re-released it as a remix with hip-hop artist Seddy Hendrinx. The song samples Aaliyah's "Let Me Know (At Your Best)." Her flow on the track is smooth. It hints at a melodic route, but she sticks to her rap style. The beat carries her perfectly.
Lynn The Bad Guy has a lot of content to explore, and I highly suggest you get to it. But remember, this young artist is just getting started and will only get better from here!
