MARIAH CAREY - 'TYPE DANGEROUS'

What’s Good Y’all! The Queen of Christmas has returned with a brand new single. And if you are still unsure of who I am referring to, it’s Mariah, THEE Mariah Carey.  Mariah has been doing her thing since 1990 and I am so glad to see her still in the game and working with new producers/sounds. 

Produced by N.W.I, Daniel Moore II and Mariah herself, 'Type Dangerous' is a Hip-Hop/R&B vibe with Mariah semi rap/singing on the beat. I noticed Anderson Paak was also involved with the composition of this record as well. 

Can we be real friends? I do not like it… at all.  For one the sound doesn’t fit Mariah at all, not saying that she needs a particular type of beat but she does need some genuine lyrics. The song is entitled 'Type Dangerous' and the lyrics hint at wanting or needing a man that is a little on the dangerous side, however, looking back at the kind of men Mariah was into, dangerous is not the word that comes to mind. Hell, looking at Mariah, dangerous is not a word that comes to mind lol. I feel like if she wanted a "bad bitch" song she could have just shitted on all the R&B girlies and called it a day, but I like the attempt at whatever this was trying to do. 

Mariah doesn’t need anything new per say in order to stay relevant. Not only is she the literal spirit of Christmas at this point, but she has countless classic and timeless bops you will hear until the end of time. The entire song I just kept thinking Why can’t she and Jermaine Dupri work together again? Did we cancel him? Is it because of him fumbling Janet? lol And while this song does use a funky old school sound, did they really expect me to take THE Mariah Carey seriously talking about ‘she like ‘em dangerous’? I would’ve believed this more coming from the 'Honey' era Mariah, I will even give this to the 'Rainbow' era of Mariah, but the Mariah now? Who looks like she bathes in gold…I don’t think so lol. 

Mariah's last album ‘Portrait’ was released in 2024, I haven’t checked it out but if we are getting a new album from Mariah, I am hoping there is a different direction this album goes in and this song is obsolete from the album.
