Lady In The Lake (stream on Apple+)
Synopsis: Maddie Schwartz (NAtalie Portman), a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo John (Moses Ingram), a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family.
My thoughts: While the synopsis doesn't do the actual show much justice, I enjoyed every bit of the crazy ride this show took me on. First I MUST give a standing ovation to the acting that is put forth by the entire cast but especially Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram. Second, I love a good time period piece. The show is set in 1960's Baltimore, MD and centers around several crimes that are taking place at a time within the area. It's all somehow connected, if you just pay attention to the clues. The story is one that will sooth your criminal investigation kink, if you have one that is lol. The latest episodes are available to stream today.

Bad Monkey (stream on Apple+)
Synopsis: A former Miami Police Department member turned health inspector, Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), investigates a case involving a human arm; he navigates through eccentric characters and unexpected challenges, all while dealing with his own personal struggles.
My thoughts: I have a confession, I love/hate Vince Vaughn lol I really don't wanna talk about it but just know this show is only added because of my low key obsession with his mediocre acting ugh lol. Anyway, this show is actually really good. Another bop for all your crime lovers out there lol I will say this, Vince Vaughn knows how to pick his projects and he also knows how to surround himself around a great cast, or maybe the directors do, not really sure but whatever it is, it continues to work in his favor. The show is fun, funny, has twists and turns you may or may not expect and it's the first season so get into it! The latest episodes are available to stream today.

En Place ou(or) Represent (stream on Netflix)
Synopsis: A youth center leader from the suburbs of Paris becomes a candidate in the presidential election. But is France truly ready for a Black President?
My thoughts: Season 2 of Represent premieres August 29th and I can't wait. My husband and I have been learning French and apart of our learning includes watch more movies and shows in french. While this show is formally a French show, you are more than welcomed to skip the subtitles and watch in English. With our voting season right around the corner, I thought I'd suggest something cute, fun and light that can take your mind off of our troubles here lol. The casting is phenomenal, the writing is fun and with the way season 1 ended, I can't wait to see what's in store for season 2!

Supacell (stream on Netflix)
Synopsis: In South London, a group of normal people suddenly develop superpowers, and the only apparent connection between them is that they are all Black; as they deal with the impact of their powers on their daily lives, one man must bring them together.
My thoughts: THIS SHOW!!! Chef's KISS!!! If you are into conspiracy theories this show is for you, if you are into superheros, this show is for you, if you are into black people having super powers, this show is for you! The acting is not only phenomenal but the writing is done beautifully especially when shedding the light on a common inherited trait among black people. I love the many twists and turns the show takes in order to connect everyone's story. I also love the lessons, I'm big on needing morals to stories lol. Anywho, this is a must stream! There's only one season so far let's hope there's a season 2!

From (stream on MGM+ & Amazon Prime)
Synopsis: Unravel the mystery of a city in middle U.S.A that imprisons everyone who enters. As the residents struggle to maintain sense of normality and seek a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest.
My thoughts: I am a horror girlie. I can watch horror movies and shows all day long to be honest, so if horror/thriller isn't your vibe then this show may not be for you. Created by John Griffin, this series reminds you of the works of Stephen King. As you get to know the characters trapped in this small town with terrors that only come out at night, you pick your favs, those you want to live to see another day and those you could truly do without lol. the story is kind of confusing so you have to pay attention. My other favorite thing about the show is one of the main characters, Boyd Stevens, played by Harold Perrineau, it's just great seeing him and I forget how much I enjoy him as an actor in horror. Seasons 1 and 2 are available today so you can catch up to the season 3 premiere September 22nd.

The Braxtons (stream on WEtv & allblk)
Synopsis: ‘The Braxtons’ Family Returns to We TV in New Series, featuring remaining family members Toni, Towanda, Trina, Tamar and matriarch Ms. Evelyn, reuniting “to share new love, success, heartbreak, ongoing family dynamics and so much more.
My thoughts: I'm not too big on reality tv anymore, it's lost its appeal to me. However, I love The Braxtons. They are the black family I wish I was apart of. I was a huge fan of The Braxton Family Values and was so sad when it was no longer on tv. Now they are back, the energy is very different this go around with their sister Traci. Even as a fan you can feel her presence is felt but missing. It's odd and it hurts but as a fan I'm grateful to the Braxtons for wanting to commit to show their personal lives, struggles, triumphs, tears, laughs and ect. It's not easy to share your life on camera let alone during a time of grief, if you are a fan of the old show or the Braxtons in general the loss of Traci Braxton was definitely felt, so it's commendable for them to allow fans to grieve and go through it with them as well. The latest episodes are available to stream today.
