JoJo - 'NGL'

What’s up y’all! I hope yall hangin’ in there, I know this new year is starting out a little ruff but music is the right dose of medicine to cure some pain. NGL is the latest album from JoJo, and it dropped right on time. This is JoJo’s 8th studio album but her 6th under her own label, Clover Music LLC.  The last release from JoJo was in 2021 so a new release was long overdue, at least to me that is lol. I have been such a huge fan of JoJo since her self-titled album, released in 2004. It was not only her voice that captured my spirit but her lyrics, ‘Get Out’ was such a teenage anthem that spoke to my ‘boyfriend-less’ teen spirit. And while both her self-titled album and her follow-up ‘High Road’ have aged well, it is really beautiful to see how much growing Joanna has done musically.

‘NGL’ is a masterpiece, and I’m not just saying this as a fan, well maybe a little, but here me out. Jojo is on her grown woman this album! With only eight songs this album was a perfect mixture of loving yourself, picking up the pieces, learning lessons and moving on. I love all eight songs but I’ll keep it short to my favorite three.

‘Too Much To Say’ had to grow on me yall! I really wanted to share this one because I did not like this song at first. It was a different sound for Jojo that I wasn’t used to or ready for, I truly think I needed this song at the right moment in life in order for me to fully appreciate and BABY I DO! It’s a fully transparent song as JoJo does a deep dive into her emotions about life, love and healing. Although the beat is more of a dance uptempo, it really is a dance the pain away type of vibe.

‘Porcelain’ is the follow up track to ‘Too Much To Say’. I love this song as the follow up because again another uptempo vibe but the lyrics are deep as Jojo uses the analogy of breaking Porcelain to her breaking down and building herself up. It’s such an uplifting song that makes you feel like, no matter what you are going through, you’re gonna be ok. Break that shit down and build yourself up, everything is going to be fine.

'Start Over' is a track I can play over and over again. It’s a love song about Gemini lol and see, that's where sis went wrong, I’m a Gemini and even I know better lol. But he must’ve shown her both his good and bad side because 'Start Over' is truly about looking back at recent love and seeing what things happened, but not bargaining, coming to terms with the end.

This album is just so good from start to finish as JoJo continues to blow me away with her sound, I highly suggest you take a listen, links below:
