What’s Good Y’all! On May 30th, 2025, Kyle Dion released his 5th studio album, Soular. I discovered Kyle a few years ago while listening to music on shuffle. Songs from his album ‘Suga’ were in constant rotation due to my music suggestions. So I was excited when the algorithm suggested his latest project. Pushing the boundaries even further, musically, Kyle Dion proves with this album why he needs to be apart of the conversation regarding the future of R&B.

Hailing all the way from Florida, Kyle popped on the scene as early as 2013, but it wouldn’t be until 2016 when Kyle would release his first debut album, Painting Sounds. however, as I stated before, it wouldn't be until his second album 'SUGA' that I would be introduced to this artist. He gave me a lot of old school vibes and I was hooked on his soulful sound/lyrics.

With his album Soulstar, you can hear the influences of Michael Jackson, Prince and surprisingly a hint of The Weeknd. I love to dance y’all and the entire album gets me on my feet doing all kinds of two-steps. I LOVE the entire album, it makes me wanna throw on some skates and just rollerblade the night away.

Some of my favorite songs are Male Gaze, Astro Afterglow and SUGA ON THE RIM. Male Gaze is a mix between old and new school as Kyle Dion sounds like a protege of both Michael Jackson and Prince, especially with the production of the song and the riff in the beginning. Astroglow, starts one way and then turns out to be a different vibe as the song progresses, the entire flow of this song switches up a few times and the entire time you're deep in the astroglow of it all! I saved my favorite song on the album for last. SUGA ON THE RIM, took a hold of me as soon as I heard it. The music sounds like a mix between Motown and Spanish music. I can't decide if I wanna two-step or do a little Salsa with this one.

Now I know how we like to heavily compare and contrast our artists and I try not to be can we be real friends? I feel like Kyle Dion is and does exactly what The Weeknd tried to attempt by switching up his genre. Now the Weeknd has a loyal fanbase and they will love his attempt at good music no matter what it sounds like. But when I listen to Soulstar, the various influences of different genres seem to reflect the passion one has for music as each song flows smoothly from one to the other with beats mixed in house, funk, soul, pop, R&B, hip hop, etc.

This album is so good, not only is it worth the download but it is worth the listen over and over again! I just have one question for Kyle Dion, Was rent due?! The way he snaps on this album is insane as he blesses each track with his signature falsetto sound.

If you're still reading this please take a moment and log off and go listen to Soulstar. Great body of work, and don’t forget to come back here to tell me what was your favorite track!
