What's good ya'll! I hope y'all are having a great week thus far! Now with a new week comes new music! Lucky Daye has FINALLY released new music and his first track of 2023 is his single 'That's You' produced by D'Mile and Bruno Mars. This song was actually released on the first of November, but I ain't like these other music reviewers. I need a minute to run the track back and see how I really feel.
Because can we be real. friends? I did not like this song at first. Let me clarify though, I instantly recognized it had Bruno Mars written all over it and that was somewhat my disdain for it. While I am a huge fan of both Bruno Mars and Lucky Daye, they are not the same and if I wanted to listen to a Bruno Mars track I would turn on Bruno Mars. I had to look at the song I was playing again because the whole record just sounds like Bruno. Now, I low key jumped the gun. I mean, not really but yes really lol. While Bruno Mars is heavily recognizable within this track, I also got a hint of Michael Jackson, but what artist today isn't inspired by MJ?
The track was written by Lucky Daye, Bruno Mars, Mike "Hunnid" McGregor, the very talented D'Mile, and Austin Brown. No, not MJ's nephew Austin Brown, for clarification lol. If you look at each persons musical history you'll realize that Lucky Daye put together a great team that knew what to do with his voice for this track. Lucky is SANGIN' on this track ok?! and it's not like he hasn't had tracks before this where he was able to flex but this one you can tell he's really giving this ballad his all. Not to mention it really is just a beautifully written broken-hearted love ballad, aside from my initial shade of this track lol.
The video is equally hypnotizing, and I would love to add this...Lucky Daye is one of those R&B artists who delivers GREAT visuals with his projects and I'm so happy to still see videos that go directly with the song.
Ultimately, I feel like if you are a Bruno Mars or a Lucky Daye fan you will instantly love this track. Despite my small critique both artists can do no wrong in my eyes, and this track is worth several spins back to back!
