Featuring Lenny Eastside, the new single explores the courage it takes to let go of an old identity and embrace a different future.

There's something uncomfortable about change.

We often celebrate the idea of becoming a better version of ourselves, but rarely discuss what it takes to leave the old version behind.

Sometimes growth requires acknowledging mistakes. Sometimes it means confronting uncomfortable truths. And sometimes, it means saying goodbye to the person we once believed we had to be.

Josh Banton explores that emotional and spiritual territory in his latest release, “Funeral,” featuring Lenny Eastside.

Released October 23, the record introduces listeners to a new chapter in Banton's artistic journey as he prepares for his upcoming project, The Hardened Heart.

Drawing inspiration from Galatians 2:20, the song uses the symbolism of death to explore spiritual renewal.

But beneath the religious references lies a message that extends beyond any single musical genre.

Who are we when the identities we've built no longer serve the people we're becoming?

For Banton, that question appears to be central to this creative chapter.

His earlier release, “Stand On It” featuring Jazzy J, emphasized confidence, determination, and remaining firm in one's beliefs.

“Funeral” approaches strength from another perspective.

Rather than focusing solely on standing firm, the record suggests that true conviction may also require the willingness to change.

The symbolism surrounding mourning and ashes becomes particularly meaningful within that context. What initially appears to represent loss instead becomes an opportunity to celebrate renewal.

Lenny Eastside's appearance adds another voice to the story, reinforcing the themes of faith and personal transformation.

Together, the two artists present a collaboration that embraces spiritual reflection without abandoning the energy of contemporary Hip-Hop.

The accompanying music video further develops the concept through funeral-inspired visuals that emphasize the transition between past and present.

As Banton prepares to introduce The Hardened Heart, the title itself invites another question.

What happens when the experiences that once protected us become the very things preventing us from growing?

Perhaps that is the larger story this next chapter will explore.

For now, “Funeral” serves as a reminder that endings aren't always tragedies.

Sometimes, they're necessary beginnings.
