What's Good Y'all! On August 4, this past Sunday, I was able to catch last minute tickets to see Lucky Daye for the second time. For those who do not understand why, well, I hope you enjoy this read!
I have written about Lucky Daye before regarding his singles 'Hericane' and 'That's You' released surrounding his latest album 'Algorithm'.
Now, clearly I am a fan fan, however, just as someone who genuinely enjoys a no-skip R&B album, once again Lucky Daye has managed to give us another classic. This is Dayes’ third studio album after releasing 'Candydrip' two years ago, which is crazy because I still play that album as if it came out yesterday, wow.
What I love about the new album, 'Algorithm', is that you can tell Daye decided to really experiment with this album. You can hear influences of Stevie Wonder on songs like 'Paralyzed feat RAYE'. Influences of Prince, even Ro James (who reminds me of a mini Prince tbh and I want to express how underrated Ro James really is but this is about Lucky lol) I could hear through various songs especially 'Diamonds in Teal'.
My favorite song on the album is 'Top' however, I also really love the song 'Soft' the rock and roll of it all sends chills down my spine every time I run it back!
Lastly, but of course not least, there are his singles 'That's You' and 'HERicane'. While Lucky Daye does make 'That's You' his own it's hard to not hear nothing but Bruno Mars, I mean he did help produce and write it so it makes sense lol 'HERicane' gives MGM vibes, it makes you want to move and just have a good time.
After listening to the album over and over again annoying my husband to death until he too learns all the lyrics, alas I got to see one of my favorite artists live again.
There is magic being in a room full of other fans singing the same songs you too enjoy. It's almost like church (not trynna make Christians mad lol) but hear me out, it's like a communion, we come together and there's no drama at R&B shows it's all just love and fun.
Lucky Daye isn't a performer like Usher but he IS a magnificent performer! I never had the pleasure of seeing Prince live, but Lucky's moves on stage and presence was very reminiscent of throwback Prince performances. All of his songs are bops and his crowd interaction has gotten better and better! Listen I could go on and on about the new album and the show, but really what you should do is check out both!
