What's Good Ya'll! We are in the final stretch of the holiday season! With the holiday season comes gatherings and whether you are gathering with friends or family you are bound to partake in fun activites like play games or try to excute the 'Tamia Dance'. Since 2020 ya'll we have been seeing people everywhere try to execute this smooth ass line dance even Tamia herself gave it a shot!
The dance itself goes perfectly with the song 'Can't Get Enough' and it really made me think about the album. Now a lot of us know and remember Tamia for her hits like 'Stranger in my house' and 'So Into You', as we got older, Tamia became more of an artists for "grown folks" meaning; Her music started to appear only on stations that were tailored for older black people. I say all of that because quite often I've heard people from my generation discuss Tamia and limit her to those two songs and ask where she's been and I'm just baffeled because sis has never missed a beat.
Between Friends is one of my favorite R&B albums, I actually call it one of my comfort albums, an album I listen to when I wanna just feel good you know? The album was released in 2006 and it was receieved with mixed reviews. Can we be real friends? Like I get some of the criticism, some critics found the material to be too generic and uneven. This was Tamia's fourth studio album and at this time not only has she been a wife since 1999, but now she's a mom, so I could see wanting something more personal from her. However, what I love about Tamia is she has the kind of voice that can take you anywhere, so it doesn't matter if her songs do not necessairly reflect her reality, they are relatable nonetheless. From songs like 'Almost' where you reminisce on a deep love you once had that you ended and messed up. Or how about Tamia's beautiful rendition of Aretha Franklin's 'Daydreamin', nothing like a beautiful ballad that makes you think of that someone special. Another favorite is 'Have to Go Through It' ft. Eric Benét and they just sound great together!
Tamia is the true defeinition of an R&B artist and I really love her music because sometimes simplicity is ok; it takes me back to those Motown days (listen to me lol I act like I was born in the 60's!) I love the new acts and the new sound of today but it really is something about our 90's R&B artists, even as they continue to grow and put out new music, I love everything they do. Listen, just do yourself a favor, take a an hour and listen to this album, the whole thing is gorwn and sexy bops. And if you and your people attempt to do the Tamia Dance report back here and let's see those videos! Enjoy ya'll!
