What's Good Ya'll! The other day I was thinking about art. Art in all aspects. How quickly we discard it or under appreciate it. Now I'm not a huge Ray J fan for real, but he got bops you feel me lol. I was singing 'One Wish' and I was like "I hate how we made this like Ray J's "only hit". I know he has other ones, but 'One Wish' is like his 'Can We Talk' and I hate that for Ray J and Tevin lol. So I wanted to run back this gem, because when I really thought about Ray's discography, I realized that this is definitely my favorite Ray J song, and low key better than 'One Wish'.
I just feel like we don't give this single the flowers it truly deserves. Now this was Ray Js' second album but let's be real this was his first single for real because wasn't nobody checking for Ray J in '97, it was all about Brandy, no shade. However, the 2000's really gave RayJ a chance to step out of his sisters shadow and I felt like the release of this single was perfect!
The song featured, at the time then-Atlantic label mate Lil'Kim and production by The Neptunes, Pharrell Williams performs the chorus, something I actually didn't recognize until now lol.
I remember when this song was released honestly because the radio stations and BET would not stop playing it and that was cool, because I couldn't get enough of it. I was already a Lil' Kim fan so to add her on the track..ICONIC. Back then, I wasn't one to pick up on sounds and arrangements of songs, trying to hone in on who might've created the beat but digging back into the archives, The Neptunes really been holding us down musically for a minute with nothing but bangers!
I love 'One Wish' down but I'mma have to start adding 'Wait a minute' back to my life, it's such a vibe and to be honest it truly captures the essence of what RayJ portrays, 'One Wish'...not so much lol run that bop back ya'll and tell me what you think!
