What’s good y'all? Happy Spooky Season! It’s my favorite time of year and my excuse to binge watch horror movies/shows all month long. So let’s take a little break from music and put you onto some shows/movies you can stream to get your spooky season started right!
Ann Rice’s Interview With the Vampire
Synopsis: In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac lives in Dubai and seeks to tell the story of his life or afterlife to renowned journalist Daniel Molloy. Beginning in early 20th-century New Orleans, Louis' story follows his relationship with the vampire Lestat du Lioncourt and their formed family, including teen fledgling Claudia. Together, the vampire family endures immortality in New Orleans and beyond. As the interview continues in Dubai, Molloy discovers the truths beneath Louis' story.
Review: Now this ain’t the movie lol, premiering on AMC in 2022, this new updated version of Ann Rice’s critically acclaimed novel Interview with the Vampire is a MUST STREAM! Still taking place in mysterious New Orleans, Louisiana, the role of Louie is portrayed by Jacob Anderson and the role of the alluring Lestat is portrayed by Sam Reid. The televised series does an even better justice to the story than the movie, in my honest opinion. There is a lot of sexual fluidity within the film, as we are dealing with Vampires and typically they don’t see gender so if that is an issue for you I highly suggest not to watch, however if you are a mature adult and love a great storyline then tune in. With two seasons you start from where we left off in the film, however it expands on that taking you deeper into the life of Louie de Pointe du Lac. Making Louie a black man added more depth to the character and honestly I never understood having vampires in New Orleans and they are all white lol New Orleans is black as hell and this show finally represents US. You can stream Interview with the Vampire on Netflix and AMC+
The Blackening
Synopsis: Seven friends go away for the weekend, only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who has a vendetta. They must pit their street smarts and knowledge of horror movies against the murderer to stay alive.
Review: If you haven’t seen this movie yet you are in for a treat! More of a comedy than a horror but still a damn good time this movie will have you laughing the whole way through! Starring Yvonne Oriji, Jay Pharoah, Grace Byers, Melvin Gregg, Antoinette Robertson, X Mayo Jermain Fowler, Jermaine Perkins and Sinqua Walls, this very random but beautiful group of black actors really did their thing with this film. It’s funny but not trying too hard. Funny it black but not too black lmao and it’s horror! You can stream this movie on Starz and Prime today!
Teacup
Synopsis:
Strange things are happening on the Chenoweths' secluded Georgia farm. Their animals are spooked and restless, and their young son has wandered into the woods and come back confused and somehow changed. Stranger still, a mysterious man in a homemade gas mask has arrived and is spray-painting a blue line along the ground. All this leaves a disparate group of neighbors forced to band together in the face of an unknown and deadly threat. "Teacup" goes beyond chills and thrills and holds up a mirror to humanity, exploring darkness and genre-bending horror, mystery and drama.
Review: I still do not know what I am watching lol This show is good but it’s wild. I have no clue what is really going on, I’m not 100% sure what is happening to the people…I’m not lost because I’m able to keep up with the storyline and I keep watching because I’m intrigued lol like what is really happening out there! Anyway,I know I didn’t give much but the show is a wild ride and definitely a must stream! You can stream on Peacock.
Salem’s Lot
Synopsis: When author Ben Mears comes back to his childhood home in search for some inspiration for his next book, he discovers that people in his home town are mysteriously turning into blood-sucking vampires.
Review: I liked this newer and updated version of Salem’s Lot more than the one from the past. The newer movie is not only shorter but it also doesn’t portray half the townspeople as completely helpless, mindless, idiots. In the new film they seem to make the young kid who survives and fights back against the vampire, braver than the one in the original. They also cut out a lot of unnecessary adult content and scenes which allows teenagers to be able to view this film as well. It is still a very slow and draining movie but nonetheless worth a stream check it out on MAX
