What's Good Y'all! This year so far has been delivering not just new music from musical legends but also new music from emerging and upcoming artists, including my girl Kirby!
If you follow me on social media (@wedrinkwine_), you may have seen a few posts boasting about Kirby from time to time. One of my favorite new vocalists of this generation, Kirby has been proving why she is one to watch since the release of her 7-song album, Sis. It has been since 2021 that we have received a new Kirby album; however, since then, we have received EPs and singles, including her latest releases such as 'The Man', 'Thick N Country', and 'Miss Black America'.

'The Man', released in June, is a perfect Blues song that is not only an negro spiritual for Black America but also for Mississippi. It has all the fixings of a classic country/blues record with a catchy hook, a problem, and a melody to solve it. You'll be playing this track again and again when it's just one of 'dem days.

'Thick N Country' gives you the funk you've been missing with a mix of country and R&B; it provides elements of past sounds mixing It with the present to give you a sound that praises the south for what It has to offer. Featuring Akeem Ali, this song is an ode to all the things we truly love about the South, everything big and country!

'Miss Black America', featuring Big K.R.I.T. is a great use of a double entendre. And I love Kirby taking this opportunity to give some love and shine on her hometown of Mississippi.
Mississippi like many southern states, can sometimes go under the radar when it comes to highlighting the talent pool that exists there. It's easy to identify and hype up southern artists from Texas (Houston to be more specific), Louisiana (New Orleans) and even Georgia (ATL). But Mississippi is a state that produces legends, from David Ruffin, to David Banner, Big K.R.I.T, Kirby and more...don't sleep on the M. I. Crooked Letter south!.
With one single released every month this summer, does this mean we are gearing up for a new album from Kirby? I do hope so and I look forward to more of a country/blues sound as we Black South rises again in this new music renaissance, to show us what they really made of.
