New Year, New Vibes: India Arie 'Voyage to India'

Updated: Aug 15

What's Good Ya'll!! Happy NEW YEAR! Now to some its just another day in another year big whoop! But to so many others its a new beginning, a fresh start, a way to do things differently. Now of course you can do that at any time but its something about bringing in the new year after having such a long one ( no matter how fast Father Time is moving if you go through trials and tribulations it just seems never-ending). Nw I don't want to drag it so I do want to wish ya'll an amazing and blessed new year! As for me, I had my black-eyed peas and collard greens, cleaned my house and did my laundry so it's all good! lol Now what Black New Year traditions do you follow? Now of course doing these things do not guarantee a prosperous year, but it's all about setting the intention. In 2022 I decided enough hip-hop, as much as I love it I gotta get my mind right. So I listened to nothing but R&B and Jazz, every now and then some rock or country but mostly my first love, R&B.

As we enter the new year I wanted to share an album with ya'll that I hold so close to my heart. Not only is this album one of my favorites but she is also one of my favorite artists.

Artist: India.Arie Simpson, Release date: January 1, 2002, Producer: India Arie; Blue Miller; Paul Morton Jr. Andrew Ramsey; Shannon Sanders

Voyage to India by India Arie had me in a chokehold at the age of 14. I have always been on a journey of self discovery and healing as I look back on my likes as a child. Released January 1, 2002, this album is a whole New Year throwback ok! And I honestly can't think of a better way to bring in the New Year. Listening to this album in my thirties is like being quenched after being so thirsty. It's the album I run to when I want to start anew.

This was India's second album and one of my favorites. From her soulful, beautiful voice, to the beautiful melodies of each song allowing you to hone in on every instrument and sound used. Then the lyrics... omg. You might remember the first single from this album 'Little Things', this single was not only a bop but a message saying how we should all pause and just be grateful for the little things in life. Or how about my personal favorite on the album 'Get It Together'. Whenever I feel like I don't have my life together this is my go to song, my sis said "Get it together, you wanna heal your body, Get it together, you have to heal your heart, Whatsoever you sow you will reap, Get it together" A MESSAGE AND A WORD OK lol

I have so many favorites on this album, from 'Talk To Her', to 'The Truth' and my personal favorite India Arie song of all time 'Beautiful Surprise'. The album is a journey through a love letter to life, to a significant other, to your ancestors, to a higher power ( If you believe in that sort of thing), to self. And this is just one of many India Arie albums that inspire, her entire discography is nothing but words of affirmation so If you are looking to affirm the hell out of your New Year, a voyage to India is a must!

Happy New Year Ya'll!
