I first discovered Fergie Baby about two years ago at a Harlem Give Back event where he performed alongside Journey Montana. His energy immediately grabbed my attention, and since then, I've been following his journey closely. Witnessing his evolution as an artist has been nothing short of epic. From his humble beginnings to opening for 50 Cent, Fergie’s growth is undeniable. I recently caught up with him and expressed my pride in his accomplishments. He assured me his new EP was on the way, and now that it's finally here, Harlem River Drive: North EP has been in heavy rotation for me.
Fergie didn’t overdo it with this project, which I appreciate. It leaves me with the feeling that there's more music on the horizon. Here's a breakdown of what stood out to me:
Track Insights:
Blind - The opening track, “Blind,” pulls in a sample from the classic “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James. Hearing Fergie switch up his flow over a smooth instrumental was refreshing, showing his versatility. He proves he’s more than just gritty bars and heavy drums.
What You Need (feat. Donelle Valentine) - This track features a sample from P. Diddy’s “I Need a Girl (Pt. 2),” and it's an undeniable vibe. It's the kind of laid-back bop we ladies love—flirty, catchy, and effortlessly cool. Donelle Valentine’s contribution was spot-on, with a hook that stays in your head long after the track ends.
Friday Night (feat. Annalise Azadian) - With its sultry, sexy vibe, “Friday Night” further proves Fergie Baby can mix heavy bars with smooth, flirty energy. Annalise Azadian’s soft vocals perfectly complement the seductive tone, giving the track an edge that speaks directly to the ladies. It’s another example of Fergie’s ability to mix street with sensuality.
No Spinning Back (feat. Cool Money) - Classic Fergie. This track features a reworked sample of Charles Aznavour’s “Hier Encore,” popularized on TikTok, but with Fergie’s gritty, signature sound. The drop of the drums was enough to confirm he’s in his element here, and Cool Money’s verse ties it together effortlessly.
Harlem River Drive - This track, which I first heard in the album trailer, is an ode to Harlem, drenched in local pride. The production feels like something straight out of a video game soundtrack, and it’s fitting for Fergie, who frequently reminds us, “God is from Harlem.” After listening to this EP, I just might believe him.
Next Exit - The only downside to “Next Exit” is that it’s the last track. It’s too short! This closing song leaves me wanting more, and I hope it hints at a follow-up EP or, better yet, a full album. Whatever's next, I’m here for it.
Final Thoughts:
Fergie Baby’s Harlem River Drive: North EP is the perfect introduction for new listeners while keeping long-time fans like me hooked. He’s proven he’s not just a one-trick pony—he’s evolving in real-time. The marketing behind him has been on point, and I see a bright future ahead for Fergie Baby. This EP is perfect for cruising from one spot to another—maybe even on your way to Harlem.
With love, Bebe Flight
