What's good ya'll! I hope you are having a beautiful and productive New Year thus far. As I still go through all the new music(cuz it's been a busy week!), I want to make sure I keep ya'll on your toes for any albums, songs or artists you probably been sleeping on. What I love about streaming music these days is once you start listening to certain types of music and artists, the algorithms begin to cater to your likes. I honestly don't remember who I was listening to at the time but I got tired of repetition and wanted something new. I tend to go to the R&B section of music apps and just stroll through to see what's new. Album Covers. Sometimes they just do it for me. While you can never judge a book by its cover, I do all the time with music lol. An album cover has to speak to me sometimes and this one was so celestial that I had to check it out.
While this album was released in January of 2022, I didn't discover it until much later that year and I've been hooked ever since. The album is so damn funky. lol Like the lyrical content is dope but its so very clear Amber's done her musical history as her sound with each track seems to pay a homage to the old school as its mixed with new.
It's so important to have a great first song for your first album, it has to come out the gate as a banger and 'One' is such a bop! The song itself is a mix of self-doubt and motivation/self-determination. Then you have the song 'Most Men'. Every time I listen to this song I think of the Supremes or The Shirelles because the arrangement gives such and old school girl group vibe. 2022 was a tough year for me, I was do a lot of healing or trying to at least, so when the album got to the track 'Healing Hurts' I saved this album to my favorites. When we discuss healing from traumas or heartbreak we don't talk about the downs of it too much. Too often we tend to glorify the positives of healing and what I love so much about this song is that it really touch based on what the healing journey truly feels like and I needed that so much at the time.
I could go on and on about this album ya'll but for real you should just check it out yourself. It's worth all 60 minutes of your time! Check it out and run back here to let me know which tracks were your favs!
