What's Good Y'all! Let me start this off by honestly saying Tinashe is a hit or miss for me. So, I was hesitant to even write this because I didn't want to be a hater. But BABY! I love this project ok, so let's just get into it! This is the first Tinashe project I have listened to, so this did make me want to go back to listen to how she has progressed as an artist. On April 12, 2024, Tinashe released her first single 'Nasty' off her latest album, which gave the song viral success paired with a dance on Tik Tok. 'Nasty' has easily become one the hit songs of the summer, so if you are still asking yourself who Tinashe is...well, you've come to the right place.
Now if you were not aware, Tinashe is not new to the spotlight. Tinashe has appeared in a number of TV shows, movies and children's videos in the early 2000's, such as, Call me Claus (2001), Rocket Power (2004) and a recurring role on Two and a Half Men (2008-2009). Circa 2007, it would be her new role within a girl group, known as Stunners, that would catapult her in the world of music. After a released EP and opening up for Justin Bieber on his world tour, the group disbanded in 2011 and Tinashe began her solo career.
It wouldn't be until 2014, with the release of her album and single '2 On' that Tinashe would hit the Billboard charts hard and leave the world wondering who she was and what was next? Now with the release of her 7th studio album 'Quantum Baby', it's time we really take a look at this hitmaker for the rising star she continues to be!
I'm not going to lie to ya'll 'Nasty' is the first Tinashe song I have ever liked. That's not to say her music isn't good, it's just not for me. However, this entire 8 track album I really like. From other reviews I have read, there are complaints about how short the album is. Well, this album, 'Quantum Baby' (alternatively titled 'BB/ANG3L PT.2'), is the second installment to the planned trilogy project following the first installment 'BB/ANG3L', so I mean do the research to the artistry behind things before complaining I guess lol. I also saw reviews about how the album is a slow start and doesn't reach the highs of past albums. I mean I only listened to 'BB/ANG3L' thus far and I like Quantum Baby ten times more. I also only listened to 'BB/ANG3L' one time, so I prefer not to be like these other music bloggers and discuss an album after only listening to it one time.
'Quantum Baby' is a buildup which is what I love about it. The album does start off with slower songs, beginning with 'No simulation' and 'Getting No Sleep' but the album begins to speed up a bit with a little bop, 'Thirsty'. 'Thirsty' is one of my favorites on the album; it's definitely the second single, in my opinion! Another thing I love about this album is the transition from song to song, 22 mins and 7 seconds can seem like a long or short amount of time depending on how you look at it lol It's albums like these I like to use when I go for a run because by the time I get to the end of the album, I know this torture of a workout is almost over lol. 'When I Get You Alone' and 'No Broke Boys' are also some other favs of mine on the album, but what I really want to put on the pedestal is the production, as an independent artist Tinashe really has been showing out as an independent artist! I just can't stress enough how much I love the way songs smoothly transition, the flow of the album feels like you are listening to one continuous song and before you know it the album is over and you want to run it back to make sure you heard what you heard lol.
The way we all move on to something else in a matter of minutes when major news breaks is part of the reason we have shorter albums, think about it our attention spans are a lot shorter these days so instead of complaining just enjoy the music and maybe if you start support albums again they may start to some back the way you remember them.
